Renova resumes operation of 75-MW biomass-fired power plant in Japan

January 4, 2025 |

In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that Japanese renewable power producer Renova announced that the 74.8-MW Tokushima-Tsuda biomass power plant has resumed regular operation.

The facility uses wood pellets and palm kernel shells as fuel and stopped operating to install permanent improvements.

Located at the Port of Tokushima-Komatsushima, Japan’s Tokushima prefecture, the biomass-fired energy park can produce some 500,000 MWh per year. Renova estimates the plant to be able to meet the electrical demand of about 150,000 households annually, the report added.

Tokushima-Tsuda is majority-owned by Renova with a 60.8% share, while domestic energy firm Osaka Gas is second with 33.5%. The remaining three co-owners each hold a 1.9% share.
