In Norway, UECC announced on September 15 that Renault Group has joined its Sail for Change program, committing to ship vehicles using liquefied biomethane between Zeebrugge and Esbjerg in a move expected to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 1,000 tonnes annually.
Renault becomes the fifth automaker to participate in the fuel-switching scheme, which launched pilot shipments on July 1. The program uses bioLNG supplied by Titan Clean Fuels and bunkered on UECC’s dual-fuel Pure Car and Truck Carriers. Emissions reductions are certified and allocated to shippers seeking supply chain decarbonization.
In 2024, UECC reported that Sail for Change cut its operational emissions by over 107,000 tonnes of CO₂, and it projects that figure will reach 155,000 tonnes this year. Renault’s participation aligns with its target to cut logistics emissions in Europe by 27 percent by 2030 under its Renaulution strategy.
UECC says its low-carbon operations are generating a compliance surplus under FuelEU Maritime and the EU ETS, allowing it to shield customers from surcharges. With alternative fuels expected to make up 58 percent of its energy mix by 2030, the company is positioning Sail for Change as a template for scalable emissions reductions
