Quebec Government grants Waga Energy $10.8M for Quebecois RNG project

January 15, 2026 |

In Canada, the Quebec Government is providing $10.8 million in financial support to Waga Energy Canada for the construction of a renewable natural gas (RNG) production facility at the Régie des matières résiduelles du Lac-Saint-Jean (RMR) landfill site in Hébertville-Station, in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.

This funding represents a key milestone in the implementation of the project, which was signed in November 2024 and is now entering the construction phase. The funding is provided through the Electrification and Climate Change Fund and forms part of the 2025–2030 Implementation Plan of the 2030 Green Economy Plan, which aims to integrate 10% RNG into Quebec’s gas network by 2030.

Using WAGABOX® technology, the facility will produce up to 200,000 GJ per year (approximately 55 GWh), equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 2,900 Quebec households, and will help avoid 9,400 metric tons of COe per year.
