In Le Havre, France, renewable energy firm Qair has secured a 60-hectare site at Haropa Port to establish Methavert, an e-methanol production project aimed at decarbonizing maritime and industrial sectors. The site, awarded through Haropa Port’s “Ouest A29” call for projects, will enable Qair to advance renewable hydrogen and methanol production at a critical gateway to Europe.
“We are delighted to have been awarded in the ‘Ouest A29’ call for projects. This demonstrates the confidence that Haropa Port has placed in us to implement our hydrogen and e-molecule strategy and to participate in the decarbonisation of maritime transport and the chemical industry, particularly on the Seine Axis,” said Guirec Dufour, CEO of Qair France.
Daniel Havis, Chairman of Haropa Port’s Supervisory Board, added, “Haropa Port is mobilising its land for the reindustrialisation of the region, with the dual objective of responding to the national strategy of sovereignty in the industries of the future and contributing to the decarbonisation of the existing ecosystem.”
With the Methavert project, Qair aims to produce 200,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually, marking Le Havre as a future green fuel hub for Europe’s shipping routes.
