In Thailand, PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC is accelerating its biorefinery productions, building upon its success as Thailand’s first producer of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
In addition to its SAF production capacity of 6 million liters per year in the first phase, GC is utilizing its expertise in refining and developing advanced chemicals to develop a co-processing system that integrates seamlessly with existing refinery units. This process transforms used cooking oil (UCO) into high-value bio-chemicals and bio-polymers, catering to industries seeking sustainable, environmentally responsible materials.
Currently, GC has commenced commercial production of three key bio-based products: Bio-Propylene, used in rigid packaging, toys, and automotive parts; Bio-BD (Bio-Butadiene), used in tire and sports footwear manufacturing; and Bio-PTA (Bio-Purified Terephthalic Acid), used in polyester fibers and PET bottles. These products serve end markets in the chemical, rubber, and packaging industries, respectively. GC also plans to expand into additional bio-based products, including Bio-Naphtha (a base feedstock for plastics and chemicals), Bio-PE (Bio-Polyethylene) for plastic bags and food packaging, and Bio-MEG (Bio-Monoethylene Glycol) for polyester fibers and PET bottles.
