In Sweden, hydrogen fuel cell provider PowerCell has received a $3.8 million follow-up order for 14 Marine System 225 units from a leading European marine OEM, with deliveries scheduled by the end of 2025. The systems will provide auxiliary power to cruise ships, underscoring growing demand for decarbonization solutions in maritime transport.
Richard Berkling, CEO of PowerCell Group, stated: “The fact that we are now receiving recurring orders of this scale is a strong indicator that the energy transition is gaining momentum. Large OEMs pioneering decarbonisation and taking responsibility for reducing air pollution from cruise ships provide the leadership the marine industry needs.”
The Marine System 225, launched in June 2024, delivers 225 kW of clean power and has received over 75 orders to date. Berkling noted the company’s shift to continuous production: “This has propelled PowerCell into continuous serial production for the first time in our history. It’s a proud milestone that highlights the effectiveness of our strategic focus on OEMs.”
Berkling described the order as marking “the beginning of a new era for us and the market,” positioning PowerCell at the forefront of sustainable marine technology as the industry accelerates its energy transition.
