In Louisiana, the Port of South Louisiana has issued a bid solicitation for the construction of a methanol fueling barge intended for operation in Southern Louisiana waters. Bids will be opened August 28 at the port’s headquarters in Reserve, Louisiana.
The barge will be built to U.S. Coast Guard and American Bureau of Shipping standards and designed to store and transfer methanol for marine bunkering. The project is part of the port’s broader strategy to develop alternative fuel capabilities for shipping operations.
According to the solicitation, construction is to begin on October 31, 2025, with final delivery by May 28, 2027.
