In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that the Port of Alicante in Spain has formally launched a Preliminary Market Consultation (PMC) for a future green hydrogen plant, as it accelerates efforts to decarbonise logistics operations in line with the European Green Deal and “Fit for 55” targets.
The initiative, dubbed PORTALI-H2, will remain open until the end of September and aims to attract maximum private sector participation ahead of a public concession tender, according to the report.
The project envisions a minimum 1MW electrolyzer, though its scope goes far beyond technical specs—targeting 70% renewable input, fossil fuel displacement, and full integration into port operations and local transport, the report added.
The port authority will not fund the project directly. Instead, the hydrogen plant will be built, financed, and operated by private companies selected through a public tender.
