Platts seeks to launch daily price assessments for certified UK subsidized waste feedstock biomethane guarantees

July 1, 2025 |

In the UK, Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to launch daily price assessments for certified UK subsidized waste feedstock biomethane guarantees of origin on Sept. 1, 2025.

This proposal reflects the growing trade and increased fungibility of UK waste Renewable Gas Guarantees of Origin that have attained ISCC certification. An increasing number of UK production sites have now attained ISCC certification. Certified waste RGGOs also have greater access to continental European markets, given the greater granularity of data provided by the Proof of Sustainability that accompanies certified volumes.

Platts proposes to launch daily assessments for current-year and year-ahead vintages for certified UK subsidized waste RGGOs and utilize the carbon intensity value definition for waste certificates of 25.00 g to 0 g CO2e/MJ, reflecting a minimum trade volume of 1 GWh.

The proposed spot assessment would reflect transactions for immediate delivery where contracts have a minimum validity of three months from the date of transaction. The proposed forward-year assessment would reflect transactions for delivery in the next calendar year of contracts that are issued in that same calendar year. The proposed assessments would be published in GBP/MWh with a conversion published in Eur/MWh.
