Planned corn acres in the US up 5% this year, USDA says

In North Dakota, Ethanol Producer reported that U.S. agricultural producers are expected to plant 95.3 million acres of corn in 2025, up 5% or 4.73 million acres when compared to last year, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service’s annual Prospective Plantings report. 

When compared to 2024, corn planted acreage is expected to be up or unchanged in 40 of the 48 estimating states. Acreage increases of 400,000 acres or more from last year are expected in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota. If realized, the planted area of corn in Idaho, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon and South Dakota will be the largest on record, according to the report.

Sorghum planted acres are also expected to increase this year, reaching 6.6 million acres, up 4% when compared to last year, the report added.
