In Ghana on September 16, Singapore’s Pacific International Lines held its first local naming ceremony for an LNG dual-fuel container ship, christening the 8,200 TEU Kota Odyssey at the Port of Tema as part of a fleet expansion linking Asia and West Africa.
Kota Odyssey is the third vessel in PIL’s new “O” Class series and will operate on the South West Africa Service, connecting China, Singapore, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire. Ghana is home to the company’s West Africa regional headquarters and acts as a transit point for inland trade to countries like Burkina Faso.
The ceremony was led by Ghana’s Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who called the event a symbol of the country’s growing role in maritime logistics and its economic ties to Singapore. Senior transport and energy officials attended alongside PIL leadership, highlighting state support for greener shipping infrastructure.
