Petrobras to launch SAF production this year

August 26, 2025 |

In Brazil, Valor reported that Petrobras is preparing to launch production of sustainable aviation fuel.

The state-controlled company plans to roll out SAF produced at its refineries by the end of the year. At the same time, it is studying other technological pathways, particularly the use of ethanol as a feedstock, according to the report.

Roberto David, Petrobras’s general manager of domestic market marketing, emphasized that by launching SAF by December, the company will move ahead of Brazil’s and the global aviation industry’s upcoming mandate to blend biofuels into fossil-based jet fuel, the report added.

Earlier this year, the company completed SAF production tests through co-processing at its Duque de Caxias refinery (Reduc) in Rio de Janeiro, blending up to 1.2% corn oil into aviation kerosene (QAV). Petrobras expects to produce up to 10,000 barrels per day of SAF.
