Petrobras supplies Transpetro ships with renewable bunker fuel

December 4, 2025 |

In Brazil, Petrobras has supplied three Transpetro vessels with marine fuel containing 24 percent renewable content, marking a new step in the company’s low carbon shipping efforts. The operation took place between November 10 and 17 at the São Sebastião terminal in São Paulo.

The bunker fuel blended by Petrobras Biocombustível included 24 percent biodiesel and was used to refuel the Zumbi dos Palmares, Rômulo Almeida, and Carlos Drummond de Andrade. The total volume supplied aligns with the amount consumed by vessels used as hotel ships during COP30 in Belém.

The fuel meets current International Maritime Organization sulfur limits and is a drop-in solution, requiring no engine modifications. Petrobras says this supports both regulatory compliance and energy transition goals while offering Brazil a competitive position in the sustainable marine fuel market.

“This operation reinforces Petrobras’ role in developing sustainable maritime solutions,” said Claudio Schlosser, director of logistics and markets. He added that the company is expanding its capacity to supply renewable fuels domestically and internationally.

In addition to bunkering ships, Petrobras also supported COP30 ground operations with renewable diesel for buses and generators, underscoring its broader commitment to low carbon logistics and cleaner energy systems.
