In India, BioEnergy Times reported that PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, the refinery arm of Indonesia’s state-owned energy company Pertamina, has begun its first shipments of sustainable aviation fuel made partly from used cooking oil.

The SAF will be used later this month on a Pelita Air flight from Jakarta to Denpasar, Bali. Pelita Air is a subsidiary of Pertamina, according to the report.

For the flight, about 32 kiloliters of SAF produced at Pertamina’s Cilacap refinery have been set aside. The company also plans to supply 1.7 million liters of the fuel to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, the report added.

According to Pertamina, the Cilacap refinery can produce around 1,400 kiloliters of SAF per day, with 2% to 3% of its content coming from used cooking oil.
