Paraguayan corn exports would not be affected by higher Brazilian production, chamber says

March 9, 2025 |

In Paraguay, La Nacion reported that Paraguayan corn exports would not be affected by the higher production in Brazil and the downward adjustment of the Argentine harvest, according to Hugo Pastore, director of the Paraguayan Chamber of Exporters and Traders of Cereals and Oilseeds (Capeco).

“It wouldn’t necessarily have an impact. Brazil has tax regulations that are specific to each state and Paraguay has certain markets within which it is very competitive,” the executive said.

Recently, Brazilian entity Conab projected that the Brazilian corn harvest for the 2024/25 campaign was estimated at a total production of 119.6 to 122 million tons thanks to good weather conditions. This adjustment represented an increase of 5.5%, compared to the previous campaign of 115.7 million tons.

“Obviously, higher production can affect the speed of business because they will have a better offer, but Santa Catarina in particular produces very little and they will need to import from another country or state,” Pastore said.
