December 5, 2024 |

In Hong Kong, Pacific Basin Shipping ordered four 64,000 dwt dual-fuel methanol-powered Ultramax vessels from Nihon Shipyard Co. in Japan, valued at $300 million, with delivery set for 2028 and 2029 as part of its plan to meet future emissions standards.

The vessels, designed for fuel efficiency and low emissions, will run on green methanol, biofuel, or conventional fuel oil. The order follows a collaboration with Nihon Shipyard and Mitsui & Co., which also includes a memorandum of understanding to secure future green methanol supply.

These ships are part of Pacific Basin’s fleet renewal strategy and align with upcoming FuelEU Maritime and IMO greenhouse gas regulations. The company, headquartered in Hong Kong, operates over 280 vessels globally and continues to invest in modern, low-emission technologies to meet the needs of evolving regulations and market demands.
