In Singapore, Ocean Network Express held the naming ceremony for its first self-owned newbuild container ship, ONE Sparkle, at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea, on February 14. The 13,800 TEU vessel is part of a 20-ship series designed for future methanol and ammonia fuel use, with deliveries planned through 2026.
“The naming of ONE Sparkle represents another important milestone for ONE. This vessel is our first owned newbuilding, and it also showcases our commitment to sustainable shipping with its innovative design and alternative fuel capabilities,” said ONE CEO Jeremy Nixon.
Built to ABS class and Singapore-flagged, ONE Sparkle features an advanced hull design for improved energy efficiency, the latest generation of energy-saving devices, smart technology integration, and shore power connectivity for zero-emission port stays. The ship will be managed by OneSea Solutions Pte. Ltd., a joint venture between ONE and Seaspan Corporation.
“As we expand our owned fleet, these advanced vessels will play a crucial role in meeting our environmental targets while enhancing our service reliability,” Nixon added.
