In the Netherlands, OCI Global and Belgian bunkering firm Victrol signed a memorandum of understanding on October 9 to develop a refrigerated clean ammonia bunkering supply chain across Dutch and Belgian ports, including Rotterdam and Antwerp. The collaboration will combine OCI’s terminal infrastructure and global sourcing network with Victrol’s bunkering operations and barge design.
OCI will import blue and green ammonia from the United States, Middle East, North Africa, and Asia through its Europoort Terminal in Rotterdam. Victrol will design, build, and operate a refrigerated ammonia bunker barge capable of ship-to-ship transfers and inland deliveries.
“The unparalleled combination of OCI’s expansive sourcing network, proprietary import terminal and valuable end-user partnerships, with Victrol’s unique expertise in bunkering infrastructure, is creating Europe’s first end-to-end ammonia fuel supply chain,” said Aviv Bar Tal, Global Vice President at OCI.
The effort builds on the port’s first ship-to-ship ammonia bunkering pilot in April. “Such collaborations are instrumental to create safe and sustainable supply chains,” said Matthijs van Doorn of the Port of Rotterdam Authority.
OCI plans to expand its Rotterdam terminal’s storage capacity from 30,000 to 90,000 metric tons to meet rising demand, positioning the port as a key hub for maritime ammonia fuel.
