In The Netherlands, Offshore Energy reports NovaAlgoma Cement Carriers has ordered Climeon’s HeatPower 300 system for its methanol dual-fuel cement carrier currently under construction at Zhejiang Xingle Shipbuilding in China. The order, finalized on December 9, 2024, involves the installation of an organic Rankine cycle waste heat recovery unit that will generate up to 300 kW of electricity by capturing low-grade waste heat from the ship’s engine cooling water and exhaust gases.
The ship, expected to be the largest cement carrier built to date, is slated for completion in late 2026. It will be outfitted with additional systems aimed at enhancing sustainability, including shore power, a ballast water treatment system, and an air lubrication system. These features are designed to minimize the environmental impact of the vessel’s operations. The HeatPower 300 installation on this vessel represents the first application of Climeon’s technology on a cement carrier, supporting the maritime industry’s transition to more energy-efficient solutions.
