Noatum Maritime Launches Electric Tugs and Pilot Boat at Khalifa Port

April 24, 2025 |

In the UAE, Noatum Maritime, part of AD Ports Group, introduced two fully electric tugboats and the Gulf’s first all-electric hydrofoiling pilot boat at Khalifa Port, as part of its plan to cut emissions and improve port operations.

The 12-meter pilot boat, supplied by Artemis Technologies, uses hydrofoil technology to lift above the water while underway, sharply reducing drag and energy use. Noatum Maritime said it offers “a high performance, zero-emission alternative that aligns with global sustainability targets.”

The two new tugboats, designed for ship assistance within the harbor, can complete multiple operations on a single charge and fully recharge in two hours. One is already in service, with the second entering operation this month.

“By investing in zero-emission pilotage and harbour operations, Noatum Maritime is delivering a cleaner more efficient solution that reduces the environmental footprint of port operations,” said Captain Ammar Mubarak Al Shaiba, CEO of AD Ports Group’s Maritime & Shipping Cluster.
