New hydrogen filling station opened in Düsseldorf

May 29, 2025 |

In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that H2 Mobility, together with Rheinbahn and Stadtwerke Düsseldorf, opened what it claims to be Europe’s most powerful hydrogen filling station. With a daily capacity of up to five tons of hydrogen, the new facility offers significantly higher performance than conventional stations of the first generation of filling stations in Germany and sets new standards in hydrogen mobility, according to the report. Thanks to patent-pending high-performance technology, up to three vehicles can be refueled simultaneously in the future – including buses, trucks, cars, and light commercial vehicles, it added. Christian Hirte, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV), said: “The opening of Europe’s most powerful hydrogen filling station is a strong signal for the ramp-up of hydrogen mobility in Germany – and for the collaboration of committed local partners. With our funding, we are providing targeted impetus for the development of regional hydrogen ecosystems that enable innovations, create added value locally, and strengthen Germany’s technological competitiveness. Because one thing is clear: we can only achieve our climate goals with innovation, infrastructure, and cooperation – that is precisely what this project stands for.” Until the electrolyzer of the Düsseldorf municipal utility company goes into operation next year, the filling station will be supplied with renewable hydrogen, the report added.
