Naturgy and Enagás back LNG bunkering with new supply ship

January 21, 2026 |

In Spain, Naturgy and Enagás have announced plans to launch Mistral LNG, an 18,900-cubic-meter bunker vessel designed to supply LNG and bioLNG to ships across the Iberian Peninsula, the Strait of Gibraltar, and the Canary Islands. Construction began in early 2026 through Enagás’ subsidiary Scale Green Energy, which will operate the vessel once it enters long-term charter with Naturgy in 2028.

At 138.8 meters, Mistral LNG will run on a dual-fuel engine, cruise at 13 knots, and cover more than 4,500 nautical miles. The vessel is designed for flexible deployment in a region supported by seven regasification terminals, four of which—Barcelona, Cartagena, Huelva, and Gijón—have begun supplying bioLNG to ships and tankers.

Naturgy frames the project as a key step in expanding its role in LNG bunkering, a market expected to grow with new EU regulations and rising demand for alternative fuels. Enagás will add Mistral LNG to a fleet that includes Levante LNG, Alisios LNG, and Haugesund Knutsen.

With existing infrastructure and vessel orders rising, the companies position LNG and bioLNG as the most immediately scalable maritime fuel options for the region’s energy transition.
