In Missouri, Brownfield reported that the chairwoman of National Sorghum Producers, Amy France. said the group will continue to promote sorghum as an option to help meet biofuels production goals.
France said that in terms of climate-friendly crops, sorghum ranks near the top.
“As we look at 45Z tax credits for the ethanol world and a lower carbon intensity score, sorghum already comes to the table with a lower CI score,” she added.
She added that ensuring that message is communicated to the next Trump administration will be crucial.
“There’s no question that it’s a good resource, a good thing for us to hang our hat on and I think the administration will pick up on that especially when we continue to have those sustainability conversations,” she said. “Nobody does it better than agriculture.”
The U.S. Treasury is expected to release guidance on 45Z tax credits by Jan. 1. France said if that doesn’t happen, the group is hoping for an extension of the biodiesel blenders tax credit.
