In Ukraine, UkrAgroConsult reported that Morocco’s Agriculture Ministry expects the gross grain harvest to rise to 4.4 million tons this year, up 41% from last year, thanks to rains in March and April.
The report highlighted that Morocco’s agriculture has suffered from drought for seven consecutive years. Last year, only 3.1 million tons were harvested, well below the average of 7 million tons.
Although rainfall has increased by 19% this year, it is still 18% below average. Thus, the country remains in a moisture deficit, the report added.
Farmers may harvest 2.4 million tons of soft wheat, 1.06 million tons of durum wheat and 0.9 million tons of barley this year, the Agriculture Ministry predicts.
Agricultural production may increase by 5.1% this year after falling by 4.8% last year, the report added.
