Morocco considers Tan Tan port for green hydrogen exports

November 7, 2024 |

In Morocco, The North Africa Post reported that Morocco’s port agency ANP has launched a tender for a study to transform the Atlantic Port of Tan Tan into a green hydrogen export hub. The port is part of a Moroccan green hydrogen offer that was unveiled last March, dedicating 300,000 hectares to green hydrogen projects, according to the report. The offer looks into projects aiming to supply both the domestic and foreign markets, hence the need for a well-equipped port. The choice of Tan Tan is mainly due to its proximity to the key Guelmin Oued Noun region, targeted by global energy firms such as Totalenergies. Total Energies and Eren signed a joint venture for a 1GW green hydrogen project in Oued Chbika near Tan Tan. A preliminary land allocation contract for the project has also been signed during the visit of President Macron to Morocco on October 28, the report added.
