In Singapore, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines refueled the capesize bulker Lambert Maru with a 30% biofuel blend for a voyage on behalf of Anglo American, issuing a digital greenhouse gas reduction certificate under its Blue Action Net-Zero Alliance initiative.
The biofuel, certified by ISCC-EU, was derived in part from waste cooking oil and is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions during navigation by approximately 30% compared to conventional marine fuels. The voyage forms part of MOL’s carbon inset program, which allocates verified GHG savings to the shipper for use in Scope 3 emissions accounting.
“The GHG reduction value created through this voyage will be allocated to the shipper, Anglo American, as a digital certificate,” MOL stated. The mechanism allows companies to reflect the carbon reductions in integrated reports or sustainability disclosures tied to maritime logistics.
