Minenergía aims to boost SAF in Colombia
In Colombia, the Ministry of Mines and Energy announced that it has completed the Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) for the technical quality regulation, a key document that will enable the production and consumption of SAF in Colombia. The proposal was presented by the Director of Hydrocarbons, Julián Flores, during the F-AIR 2025 International Aeronautical and Space Fair, taking place in Rionegro, Antioquia.
The regulation, currently open for public comment until July 24, marks a milestone in the implementation of the SAF Roadmap, laying the groundwork for the development of this emerging industry in Colombia, the ministry said. Due to the technical and operational requirements for adopting these new fuels, the process began with the formation of permanent technical committees aimed at ensuring safe and effective implementation.
“The National Government is committed to a fair and responsible energy transition. With this regulation, Colombia is preparing to take a firm step toward cleaner and more sustainable aviation, aligned with the country’s decarbonization and technological development goals,” said Edwin Palma Egea, Minister of Mines and Energy.
In compliance with the roadmap for the development of the SAF in Colombia, the Ministry of Mines and Energy has already outlined the first regulatory steps that will shape the future of this new market. Following extensive consultations with key stakeholders in the public and private sectors, the ministry structured three key regulatory projects that seek to close existing legal and technical gaps.
Among the most notable proposals is a technical quality regulation, which will set standards for semi-synthetic jet and 100% renewable fuels, currently in the Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) stage.
