Mexico taps Brazil’s ethanol expertise to boost biofuels strategy

In Chile, BNamericas reported that Mexico’s government has signed an agreement with Brazil to help develop its emerging biofuels industry.

Mexico’s Energy minister Luz Elena González Escobar and Brazil’s vice president Geraldo Alckmin signed a declaration of intent to collaborate on the production, regulation, certification and consumption of biofuels, according to the report.

“Brazil is very willing to work on ethanol and has very advanced technology,” economy minister Marcelo Ebrard said at a press conference in Mexico City.

In a statement, the Mexican energy ministry said it aims to benefit from technology transfers and Brazil’s experience in developing ethanol, sustainable aviation fuels, biodiesel and sustainable maritime fuels.
