In Mexico, Milenio reports that an increase in the arrival of sargassum to Mexican coasts, the Mexican government the creation of a multinational company that uses these algae for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). In a forum organized by the company Siemens Energy, the Undersecretary of Sustainable Development and Circular Economy of the Secretariat of Media Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), José Samaniego, added that if the phenomenon of sargassum is addressed in collaboration with the United States, it could have a greater scope to produce SAF.
The undersecretary added that this idea of having a multinational company with the Central American and Caribbean countries arose from a ministerial meeting to address a common problem that benefits everyone.
