In Canada, Methanex announced strategic partnerships with TankMatch in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp region and Alpha Maritime and Hyodong Shipping in South Korea to launch methanol bunkering operations serving two of the world’s busiest maritime corridors, supporting ship refueling and enabling last-mile delivery of low-carbon fuel.
“These partnerships allow us to safely and reliably fuel ships with methanol in two of the busiest global trade corridors that are pivotal to maritime decarbonization,” said Mark Allard, Methanex’s Senior Vice President of Low Carbon Solutions. The company will use barge-to-ship operations in the ARA region and port-based delivery in South Korea to supply methanol from its global logistics network.
“This partnership allows us to apply our expertise in inland waterway fuel logistics to accelerate the safe adoption of methanol bunkering in the ARA region,” said Andre Nieman of TankMatch. Injun Ko of Hyodong Shipping added: “This partnership will serve as a catalyst in positioning Korea as a critical hub for the transition to low-carbon shipping.”
Methanex emphasized that all partners have been vetted to meet its operational and safety standards, drawing on its decade-long experience managing the world’s largest fleet of methanol-fueled ships through its Waterfront Shipping subsidiary.
