In Brazil, Globo newspaper reports Companhia Melhoramentos Norte do Paraná plans to build a corn ethanol plant and one biomethane. The studies to erect a corn ethanol plant began a little more than a year ago, reveals Gastão Mesquita, partner and CEO of the company, in an interview with Valor. The plan is for the industry to be built next to the Jussara Plant, the group’s first sugar-alcohol unit, in a municipality of the same name in Paraná, a region with large corn production. To make the investment possible, the CMNP has already had talks with the cooperative Cocamar, which is based in Maringá, in the north of the state.
The trend is that the cooperative can supply corn and be a buyer of DDGs (dry distillery grains) for the farms of the cooperatives. Wanted, Cocamar said it would not speak out, but that it “follows the possibilities that can add value to our cooperatives and the northern region of Paraná.”
By the project outlined, the unit attached to the Jussara Plant will have the capacity to process 120 thousand tons of corn per crop, generating R$ 300 million in revenue per year.
