Longi starts work on biomass–green hydrogen methanol project in Inner Mongolia

August 17, 2025 |

In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that LONGi Green Energy has begun construction on a flagship integrated green methanol project in Urad Rear Banner Industrial Park, Inner Mongolia, China.

Approved in September 2024, the plant will combine local wind and solar-powered hydrogen production with biomass gasification to deliver 100% green methanol, according to the report.

The report added that the two-phase facility will process 600,000 tons of agricultural waste annually, ultimately producing 400,000 tons of green methanol while cutting 1.2 million tons of CO2 emissions per year.

“Urad Rear Banner boasts abundant wind and solar resources, resulting in low-cost green electricity, enabling economical scale power generation. The abundant local agricultural biomass… provides a low-cost source of carbon dioxide feedstock, laying the foundation for the subsequent development of a green methanol synthesis industry chain,” said Yu Litao, vice-president of Xi’an LONGi Clean Energy.
