This marks another important step by Amber Grid in expanding the biomethane market and creating conditions for market participants to export biomethane produced in Lithuania to international markets, as well as to use biomethane produced in other member states in Lithuania. A significant contribution to the completion of this stage was made by the Finnish guarantees of origin registry service provider Grexel Systems Oy, with whom Amber Grid signed a service agreement in July of this year.
From now on, guarantees of origin issued in Lithuania and recognized internationally under the European Energy Certificate System (EECS) will be transferred via the AIB hub. Membership in the AIB Gas Scheme Group enables the exchange of guarantees of origin between registries of different EU countries, thereby ensuring conditions for biomethane market participants to trade renewable gases across the entire European Union.
