Leading Brazilian congressman wants 35% ethanol blending

October 20, 2025 |

In Brazil, CNN Brasil reports president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), defended at an event in the city of São Paulo, on Monday the increase in the mixture of ethanol in gasoline, to 35%. The percentage was recently raised to 30%.

The mandatory percentage of anhydrous ethanol mixed with ordinary gasoline in Brazil will be high from 27% to 30% (new mixture called “E30”). The decision was approved by the CNPE (National Council of Energy Policy) and came into force in August this year.

The “Fuel of the Future” program, approved by Congress, allowed the mix to rise to 35 percent. The CNPE can raise the percentage if the technical feasibility is proven.

In his participation, Hugo also concluded policies approved by Congress to “extend the participation of renewable sources in the Brazilian energy matrix.” He mentioned the “Fuel of the Future” — which among other measures raised the percentage of the mix.
