In Rotterdam, Engine Online reports liquefied biomethane remains the lowest-cost marine fuel for EU-to-EU voyages, with adjusted prices ranging from $50 to $215 per ton, depending on engine type. Its sharp cost advantage comes from its zero-gram CO₂e per megajoule emissions rating and its eligibility for FuelEU Maritime compliance pooling, which allows shipowners to sell overcompliance credits into the market. With compliance surpluses now priced at €218.75 per ton CO₂e, LBM earns deep offsets that push its net price far below other fuels.
Next on the ranking is B100 biofuel, priced in Rotterdam between $450 and $750 per ton after Dutch HBE rebates. B100 remains cost-competitive against fossil LNG, especially in medium-speed engines.
Fossil LNG sits higher in the range of $500 to $700, while traditional fuels trail at the top. HSFO and VLSFO range between $450 and $600, with LSMGO closer to $550 to $700.
All prices are adjusted for energy content and EU compliance costs. With regulators tightening emissions rules and pooling values rising, fuels like LBM with ultra-low carbon intensity are gaining clear economic ground in the bunker market.
