Kassø e-methanol facility produces industry-grade e-methanol for the first time

April 6, 2025 |

In Denmark, European Energy said it has produced the first batch of industry-grade e-methanol at its Power-to-X facility in Kassø, Denmark.

This follows earlier production of raw e-methanol and marks the next stage in commissioning the facility, which will be the world’s largest commercial e-methanol facility, according to the firm.

The facility, designed, constructed and commissioned by European Energy’s Power-to-X department, uses renewable electricity and biogenic CO2 to produce carbon-neutral e-methanol, supporting the decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping and chemical manufacturing. The latest batch achieved a tested purity level above the industry standard of 99.85%, suitable for industrial use, European Energy said.

The biogenic CO2 used in the process is a by-product of biogas production derived from agricultural residues, the firm added.
