Kanematsu begins supplying FAME-blended marine fuel in Japan

In Japan, Kanematsu Corporation has begun supplying FAME-blended biofuel for international ocean-going vessels together with Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. and Kanematsu Yuso Co., Ltd., a Kanematsu group company. The three companies aim to decarbonize the shipping industry through the Initiative, with the FAME-blended biofuel expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 20% compared to conventional marine fuel.

Under the Initiative, the companies will utilize the onshore tanks and offshore loading equipment at Kanematsu Yuso’s Kokura Oil Tank Terminal. Using biofuel blend tanks, Kanematsu Yuso will blend FAME procured by Kanematsu with heavy oil supplied by Idemitsu Kosan. Then, after quality check, the FAME-blended biofuel will be delivered offshore for the bunkering of ocean-going vessels.
