Jord and Votion Biorefineries team up to produce SAF from C4 grasses
In Sweden, Jord AB and Votion Biorefineries AB announced a strategic partnership to convert Jord’s sustainable C4-grass biomass into biocrude and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This collaboration aims to accelerate the global energy transition and reduce carbon emissions in hard-to-abate sectors such as transport, aviation, and chemicals.
Jord specializes in cultivating and commercializing C4-grass biomass and solid biofuels, grown on marginal or degraded lands in Senegal and the Dominican Republic. This fast-growing biomass sequesters carbon, regenerates soils, and serves as an ideal feedstock for renewable energy applications.
Votion Biorefineries, founded in 2022, is a Swedish company committed to combating global warming through scalable and feedstock-flexible biorefinery technologies. Votion converts sustainable biomass into advanced biofuels, SAF, renewable chemicals, and valuable by-products like fertilizers and biogas.
Through this collaboration, Jord and Votion will:
• Develop a joint market offering that combines sustainable biomass supply with advanced biocrude production technologies.
• Explore opportunities for establishing Votion’s biorefineries in Jord’s production regions, creating localized supply chains and reducing emissions from transport.
• Investigate the performance and techno-economic conditions of Jord’s C4-grass biomass in biocrude production processes.
• Collaborate on business models, financing strategies, and customer acquisition for the joint offering.
• Work towards commissioning the first biomass-to-crude (BTC) facility within eight years, targetting markets heavily reliant on fossil fuels.
