India’s Economic Survey concerned biofuels push will upset food security

In India, the Economic Times newspaper reports the Economic Survey expressed concerns that current biofuel policy from blending mandates to set prices for feedstocks could lead to long-term distortions of cropping patterns and food security as demonstrated by similar experiences internationally. The survey wants more emphasis put on improving productivity of oilseeds and less on those used as ethanol feedstocks in an effort to ensure food security and nutritional outcomes while also achieving energy goals.
