In India, the Financial Express newspaper reports that grain ethanol manufacturers have not taken up the opportunity to buy broken rice from government stores for use as feedstock because prices were set to high. As a result, discussions are currently underway to reduce the cost of the broken rice in an effort to quickly boost grain-based ethanol production and clear out stores. A ban on rice sales for ethanol was lifted in August after 13 months. The rice was then set to be sold via e-auction but there were no takers.
