Improved EU grain production to aid export recovery

December 20, 2025 |

In Spain, World Grain reported that improved 2025-26 grain production in the EU, thanks to beneficial summer conditions in the north and west, will help exports recover from disappointing levels last year, according to a report from the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture.

Production is estimated at 288.1 million tons, up from the summer estimate of 279.2 million tons and the 257.7 million produced in 2024-25. Total exports are estimated at 45.7 million tons, up from 37 million tons in 2024-25, according to the report.

Corn production is estimated at 57.5 million tons, down from 59.5 million tons. A record-low planted area in major corn-producing countries outweighed any area expansion in other EU member states, the FAS said.
