In Spain, El Economista reports Iberdrola has achieved the first certifications of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO). According to Enagas, the first hydrogen Origin Guarantees in Spain have already been issued in favor of the company.
In particular, 1,369 MWh of hydrogen produced on the Barcelona Plant managed by Iberdrola have been certified. In addition, 10,937 guarantees of origin have subsequently been issued with the same hydrogen label produced in the installation that also operates the electric plant in Puertollano.
The RFNBOs belong to a regulatory category that includes fuels produced from renewable sources other than biomass. In order for hydrogen to be considered RFNBO, the electricity used in its production must comply with the requirements laid down in Delegated Regulation 2023/1184.
