In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that Hyundai Motor is stepping up its push into hydrogen, outlining plans for a gigawatt-level electrolysis plant along with new initiatives in water electrolyser development for green hydrogen production.
The South Korean automotive manufacturer plans to build a 1-GW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis plant in the southwest, taking advantage of the readily available supply of renewable energy, along with nearby hydrogen shipment centers and refueling infrastructure, according to the report.
Hyundai will also develop production lines for PEM electrolyzers and hydrogen fuel cell components, with the main aim of building these into a globally oriented export business.
In addition, the South Korean group plans to actively consider investments, through consultation with the Korean government and local authorities, in a hydrogen-focused AI Smart City that integrates the company’s core technologies, including AI, hydrogen energy, and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) solutions, the report stated.
