Hystar announces strategic collaboration with McDermott to develop 100 MW green hydrogen plant design

December 11, 2025 |

In Norway, Hystar  announced a strategic collaboration with McDermott to develop a comprehensive 100-megawatt (MW) green hydrogen plant design.

Under the agreement, Hystar will provide its proprietary PEM electrolyser technology. McDermott will leverage its global expertise as an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) provider for major energy infrastructure.

The 100 MW reference plant will serve as a blueprint for future commercial hydrogen projects, enabling faster development and streamlined delivery for industries such as refineries, ammonia, steel, heavy transport, and synthetic fuels, the Nordic company said.

“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to advancing the energy transition,” said Rob Shaul, McDermott’s Senior Vice President of Low Carbon Solutions. “By combining McDermott’s engineering and EPC expertise with Hystar’s innovative PEM technology, we’re creating a scalable solution to support future green hydrogen projects.”
