In India, BioEnergy Times reported that Horizon, through its electrolyser unit HET Hydrogen, is preparing to deploy its first 5-megawatt hydrogen systems with Rockcheck Steel Group Co. Ltd., an industrial company based in Tianjin, China.
The project will combine solar power and hydrogen production using a 17-megawatt solar setup and two 5-megawatt hydrogen units. The green hydrogen created will be added to the gas supply used in Rockcheck’s steel furnaces. This is expected to reduce the use of coal and cut emissions. The system is set to begin operations by the end of 2025, according to the report.
If successful, this technology could be rolled out worldwide alongside other renewable energy sources like wind and solar. Horizon says that with large-scale use, it can bring the cost of green hydrogen down to about $2 per kilogram. This would make it much more affordable for industries like transportation, chemical production, and metals processing, the report added.
