Hong Kong conducts first B30 marine biofuel bunkering under MEPC 83

In China, on May 7 in Hong Kong, Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-Chemical Co. and Orient Overseas Container Line completed the city’s first delivery of ISCC-EU-certified B30 marine biofuel, supplying a container vessel with a 30% biodiesel blend under newly enacted IMO MEPC 83 regulations; financial terms were not disclosed.

The B30 fuel blend—30% biodiesel mixed with conventional marine fuel—exceeds the carbon reduction potential of previous B24 blends and complies with sulfur limits set by international shipping standards. This marks the first time B30 has been supplied to a vessel in Hong Kong, a milestone enabled by regulatory changes that allow local bunker barges to carry up to 30% biofuel content.

“This operation affirms Hong Kong’s step forward in sustainable shipping,” the companies stated, noting that the fuel contributes to “global decarbonization goals” and reinforces the port’s positioning as a green maritime hub.

Chimbusco Pan Nation, founded in 1991 and one of the region’s largest marine fuel suppliers, said the operation demonstrates its commitment to expanding sustainable energy solutions through industry partnerships. Orient Overseas added that the fueling supports its carbon reduction strategy and wider emissions targets across its fleet.
