HKUST and Towngas establish Hong Kong’s first hydrogen energy industry innovation platform

In Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish what it claims to be Hong Kong’s first hydrogen energy innovation platform. The two parties will collaborate on areas such as technology commercialization and related fields.

HKUST and Towngas will jointly establish the Hong Kong Hydrogen Hub, an open innovation platform dedicated to attracting leading universities, research teams, innovative enterprises, and industry organizations worldwide. The hub will focus on five core pillars: technology commercialization, startup incubation, policy and standards formulation, green certification, and professional talent development, all aimed at driving the high-quality development of the hydrogen energy industry.

The pair also noted that research will concentrate on hydrogen production, storage and safety, hydrogen fuel cells, and hydrogen energy generation.
