January 30, 2025 |

In South Korea, HJ Shipbuilding & Construction delivered a 272-meter-long, 22-knot 7,700 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship to a European owner on the 20th at its Yeongdo shipyard in Busan. The vessel, the first of two ordered in 2022, features an eco-friendly design that meets International Maritime Organization emission regulations.

The delivery signing ceremony took place with representatives from the owner and HJ Shipbuilding in attendance. The vessel incorporates a Mark III membrane-type fuel tank from France’s GTT, securing 6,100 cubic meters of LNG storage capacity while maximizing container space. HJ Shipbuilding stated, “Only a handful of shipyards worldwide can design and build LNG DF ships with membrane-type fuel tanks,” underscoring its technological expertise.

With this delivery, HJ Shipbuilding follows the successful handover of six 5,500 TEU methanol-ready container ships, reaffirming its competitiveness in the LNG dual-fuel market. CEO Yoo Sang-chul said, “We will continue to meet owners’ expectations by developing and building high-value, eco-friendly ships.” The second vessel is set for phased delivery upon completion of final outfitting.
