In Singapore, Manifold Times reports on January 27, Hafnia and its joint venture partner Socatra of France held a naming ceremony at Guangzhou Shipyard International for Ecomar Gascogne, the first of four 49,800 dwt methanol dual-fuel MR tankers. The newbuilds mark Hafnia’s entry into the dual-fuel methanol segment, with the remaining vessels set for delivery through 2025 and 2026.
“Our new fleet is designed to operate on both conventional fuel and methanol, enhancing our fleet’s ability to adopt cleaner fuel options and support decarbonisation efforts,” Hafnia stated. The ships are part of a multi-year time charter agreement with TotalEnergies.
Hafnia previously announced its order for the four methanol-capable MR tankers from GSI, signaling a strategic move toward alternative fuel adoption. The vessels will operate with both conventional marine fuels and methanol, allowing for greater flexibility as the shipping industry transitions to lower-carbon options.
