In China, eWorldShip reported on August 26, Guangzhou Shipyard International, part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, launched the third in a series of 50,000‑ton methanol dual‑fuel tankers built for J.P. Morgan.
The vessel entered the water with most systems already in place. Cabins were sealed and furnished, lighting and power connected, and 98 percent of equipment wiring complete. Main deck machinery, engine room systems, control units, and life-support equipment had already undergone preliminary testing, reducing the scope of work remaining at berth.
The design features a methanol dual‑fuel propulsion system and includes interfaces for shore power and preparations for future rotor sails. A shaft generator allows energy recovery during voyages, improving overall fuel efficiency.
According to the shipyard, these tankers are built to meet tighter environmental standards while maintaining operational flexibility. The launch follows a construction program that advances work earlier in the process, aiming to shorten delivery timelines across the series.
With the third vessel afloat, Guangzhou Shipyard continues progress on the J.P. Morgan series, integrating green‑fuel capability with efficiency measures across the build cycle.
